  1. Commercial Design
    1. Large Scale: greater than 1,500 sq. ft.
    2. Small Scale: less than 1,500 sq. ft.
  1. Residential Design
    1. Large Scale: greater than 1,000 sq. ft.
    2. Small Scale: less than 1,000 sq. ft.
  1. Outside the Box/Specialty Project: Out-of-the-ordinary; such as salon, bowling alley, trade show booth, etc…
  2. Student
    1. Freshman/Sophomore Level Design Students
    2. Junior/Senior Level Design Students
  3. Industry Partner Custom Product Design
    1. Commissioned/ Collaborative: submitted by an Industry Partner for a specific designer’s project, includes any item custom made, one-of-a-kind, or stand alone
    2. Permanent Fixture: must be a produced, permanently installed item (for example but not limited to- cabinetry, stair rail, lighting fixture)
    3. Non-Permanent Fixture: produced custom item or for product line (for example but not limited to rugs, window treatments, furniture)
  1. All entries
    1. Entries are restricted to current ASID Professional, Allied, Associate, Student Members, Industry Partners of the ASID NYU/CE Chapter in good standing.
    2. You may enter as many projects as you wish in either category. Each project must be entered separately. Entry fees are charged per project submission.
    3. Previously awarded projects may not be submitted and non-winning projects may be resubmitted.
    4. Projects can be from any location but must have been completed with the past 3 years.
    5. It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that the materials submitted meet the rules, regulations, category and eligibility requirements
    6. Designers are encouraged to volunteer additional information about the trades, vendors, showrooms, manufacturers and other parties/ sources utilized for the submitted projects. This information is not to be visible to the judges.
  2. Student entries
    1. Any student who is an ASID member in good standing and currently enrolled in an interior design university or college program with the NYU/CE Chapter region when the project was completed.
    2. Project must be completed during your academic career and the submission should correspond to the award category in the year it was completed.
    3. All entries must be the work of the entering student only. No team project entries will be accepted.
  1. Submit a maximum of three (3) 11” x 17” presentation boards in a single PDF file landscape orientation; orientation must be consistent for the entire project.
  2. Project Statement: provide a brief description of your submission outlining the design intent, objectives, program requirements, design challenges and solutions provided in less than 250 words, typed in a 10-point easy to read font, shown directly on one presentation board. 
  3. All images submitted must be 300 dpi resolution or higher and less than 15 MB.
  4. The project boards must include: project statement, title of project, plans, elevations, rendered perspectives and/or photographs (before photos can be included but are not required) or other media which complement the project statement.
  5. Boards must exclude your name, company or school name. This information will be included during registration and will not be shared with the judges.
  1. Professional and Industry Partner
    1. Entrees submitted are $100.00 for the first entry and $50.00 for each additional entry.
  2. Students
    1. Entrees submitted are $30.00
  3. Each entry must be submitted separately.
  4. After registration and payment you will receive an email that will direct you to the link for submission. A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt. Please contact Nicki Land if you do not receive confirmation of your submission, or if you are in need of assistance:
  1. Questions regarding entry requirements, guidelines, judging, submissions, etc., must be emailed to Nicki Land prior to 8:00 pm Saturday May 21, 2022. No questions will be answered verbally. Any questions submitted after this date and time may not be answered.
  2. Completed entries and payment must be received by 11:55pm on Sunday May 22, 2022.
  1. The ASID NYU/CE Chapter Professional Design Competition Committee will appoint a jury with a minimum of three judges. Judges will be ASID members in good standing.
  2. Entries are evaluated individually and awarded points. Judges’ scores for each entry are totaled out of the five (5) sections listed below with an opportunity for extra credit. Totals from each judge are then averaged to determine the winner.
  3. The judges reserve the right not to issue any award for any category where the entry does not exemplify design excellence in accordance with judging criteria. Scores 79 or below are not considered for award purposes.
  4. Any entry that does not meet all competition rules and requirements will be automatically disqualified.
  5. Judges reserve the right to combine categories with less than three (3) entries as they see fit.
  1. Design Objectives (20 points): Clarity of project. Addresses project requirements and scope in concept statement. No identifying information for designers should appear on the design statement. This is to maintain entrant anonymity.
  2. Aesthetics (25 points): Overall visual success of the project using the principles and elements of design.
  3. Functionality (25 points): Effective and appropriate use of materials, finishes, furnishings, lighting, space planning and detailing.
  4. Design Creativity (25 points): Originality and creativity in problem solving, material use and attention to detail.
  5. Sustainability (5 points): ASID believes that design impacts lives to enhance the human experience. Describe in your project statement the design elements that successfully support this mission and how the power of design can positively affect the client, public, etc…

All awardees will receive one ticket to all events, including the awards reception and FALL into DESIGN.  First, second and third place in all categories.

  1. Winners will be notified by the ASID NYU/CE Chapter Board no later than Friday June 17th 2022.
  2. All entries will be recognized by our Chapter via social media, digital newsletter, or other means.
  3. It is not mandatory, but strongly advised, that the awardee attend the awards reception held locally (time & date TBD) and at FALL into DESIGN.
  1. ASID NYU/CE will assume no responsibility for electronically damaged entries or technical difficulties uploading.
  2. By participating, entrants agree to allow ASID NYU/CE to display entries and images at Chapter functions, other selected public events and/or communications.
  3. Entries will be disqualified without completed registration and payment.
  4. There will be no refund for entrants who pay the entry fee, but do not submit their project by the deadline.
  5. Any company/team member/collaborator who is not an ASID member cannot be named on the entry form and will not be considered for an award.
